Who we are
Growing up in Charlotte's inner city, Grant and Gabon were forced to learn how to survive on their own. Basketball and school quickly became their safe places as they had steadfast dreams to make it to the NBA – a vision they had to break their family’s cyclical financial troubles. Gabon, the older of the two brothers, would complete his homework through his phone all throughout high school and only had a computer for the first time in college. Despite this reality, the brothers always placed a supreme importance on making their educations matter and maintaining decent grades, subconsciously stemming from the admiration of their mother who studied engineering. Gabon would take Grant to practice till 8PM and they would both work on homework until late hours in the night.
Shortly after Gabon’s championship run in high school, Grant was afforded a life-changing opportunity to receive a private school education at Providence Day School - a reality that nobody in his family could imagine. Simultaneously, Gabon was beginning his college career as a student athlete and computer engineering major. It was all beginning to amount to something. Through Grant’s education, he was able to continue honing his basketball skills, developing vital interpersonal and communication skills, growing his intellectual mind, and figuring out who he wants to be as a man. Through Gabon’s experiences, he found his calling as a cybersecurity engineer for TIAA and realized that the power of his mind was limitless, eventually spending time in numerous verticals and companies within technology, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and private equity.
When Grant was drafted to the Boston Celtics in 2019 and Gabon started working at Kapor Capital and then matriculating in the MIT Sloan School of Management as a MBA student, it was top of mind for them to ensure that other youth could experience the same opportunities they were afforded and other families were given the tools and resources to build intergenerational wealth. The Grant Williams Family Foundation was born. The concept of GW2 Partners followed.
At GW2 Partners, we understand that privilege plays a significant role in the outcomes of families. Not all families have had the same opportunities, but we believe that every family deserves the chance to build lasting, intergenerational wealth.
